Theme: Leveraging Diaspora Expertise for Sustainable Development

Venue: Zimbabwe Embassy in London  Time: 17:00 – 20:00

Financial Markets Indaba in collaboration with the Zimbabwe Embassy in the United Kingdom is co-hosting the Zimbabwe Diaspora Business Forum on the 6th of February at the Zimbabwe Embassy in London.

Background

Zimbabwe’s diaspora community represents a powerful reservoir of skills, professional expertise, capital, and global networks. Across sectors such as health, finance, mining, agriculture, real estate, and professional services, diaspora professionals possess deep technical knowledge and international experience that can significantly accelerate Zimbabwe’s development agenda.

There is a growing need for a structured, sector-based, and outcomes-driven platform that aligns diaspora expertise and investment capacity with Zimbabwe’s priority development projects. The Zimbabwe Diaspora Business Forum is designed to respond to this need by creating a credible, project-focused platform that connects diaspora professionals directly with government institutions, private sector project sponsors, and investment opportunities in Zimbabwe.

Forum Objectives

The Forum aims to:

  1. Showcase bankable project investment opportunities across priority sectors of the Zimbabwean economy.
  2. Mobilise diaspora expertise and professional skills to support both public and private sector projects.
  3. Facilitate diaspora investment participation through clearly defined project pipelines.
  4. Launch structured, sector-based Diaspora Professional Clusters to ensure sustained engagement beyond the forum.

Strengthen professional and business networks among diaspora members, government, and private sector stakeholders.

Forum Structure and Agenda Overview

Objective: High level presentation of credible, sector-specific investment projects seeking expertise, partnerships, and capital.

Objective: Enable diaspora professionals to actively engage in projects aligned with their skills and investment interests.

  • Offering professional and technical expertise to project sponsors

  • Direct equity participation or co-investment in projects
  • Formation of professional consortia to support large-scale initiatives
  • This session positions diaspora professionals not only as financiers, but also as strategic partners in development.

 Purpose of the Clusters:

  • Serve as organised platforms for continuous engagement

The programme is a fresh golden opportunity to turn the brain drain over the past two decades into a brain gain. This will be achieved through integrating patriotic diaspora talents into national economic development in exchange for skills, developed world work ethic and cultural awareness.

Conclusion

The Zimbabwe Diaspora Business Forum represents a strategic shift from informal engagement to structured, sector-driven collaboration. By aligning diaspora expertise with clearly defined investment and development opportunities, the forum creates a sustainable platform for meaningful diaspora participation in Zimbabwe’s economic transformation. The launch of Diaspora Professional Clusters ensures continuity, accountability, and measurable impact, transforming diaspora engagement from goodwill into long-term value creation for Zimbabwe.
